Educating for Health, Hope, and a Sustainable Future
The Power and Purpose of Education
Schools play a vital role in improving health and livelihoods, strengthening social stability, and driving long-term economic growth. They are also essential to achieving each of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
However, children who cannot envision their future often struggle to find joy or motivation in school. To keep them engaged and help them find meaning in their education, it is important to emphasize the immediate benefits of learning — such as:
Building lasting friendships
Discovering new ideas and experiences
Finding a sense of belonging within a group
For these benefits to truly impact children’s lives, we must connect them to examples and experiences that resonate with their personal interests and passions.
Learning Today, Growing Together for Life
Bethel Elementary School was founded with the belief that education is the foundation for a better future. Schools not only improve health and livelihoods but also promote social stability and long-term economic growth. They play a vital role in achieving the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
At Bethel Elementary, children are encouraged to discover the joy of learning by focusing on the immediate benefits of school — forming lasting friendships, exploring new ideas, and finding a sense of belonging within a supportive community. Each lesson and activity is designed to connect with students’ real interests, helping them see education as meaningful and empowering.
The school also values professional and vocational education, guiding students toward pathways that equip them with practical skills and prepare them for future careers.
Founded by Rev. Franckel Formetus and Philiona Derissaint Formetus, both devoted educators and community leaders, the school stands as a beacon of hope and development in Fond-Parisien. Rev. Formetus’ extensive background in education, theology, computer science, and community service reflects the school’s commitment to academic excellence and moral growth. Together, they nurture not just minds, but character — inspiring children to learn, grow, and lead with purpose.
Where Friendship, Discovery, and Purpose Begin.
Are you looking for a short, career-focused program that will help you enter the job market quickly? A vocational program may be the perfect choice for you. These programs offer multiple levels of qualification and provide hands-on training directly connected to real-world careers.
Vocational education includes all forms of secondary education that prepare students for specific professions and practical skills. It can be pursued through technical schools, vocational and hotel high schools, or specialized apprenticeship training centers. Many programs also provide opportunities to continue into higher education through work-study options — combining classroom learning with valuable on-the-job experience.

His Journey and Ministry Work
Throughout his life, Rev. Franckel Formetus has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to education, ministry, and community development. His journey reflects both a heart for service and a passion for empowering others through faith and knowledge.
He began his ministry and community involvement as an animator for the Children’s Club of Delmas, a program of the Christian Education, Training, and Vocational Guidance Center. There, he worked closely with underprivileged children, helping them grow spiritually and academically.
Rev. Formetus later served as Bursar and Academic Director at Institution Mixte Terre de l’Alphabet in Delmas, where he played a key role in shaping the school’s educational mission and guiding young learners toward excellence. From 2008 to 2010, he worked with the Dutch Field Program as an Administrative Assistant and Translator, strengthening his experience in leadership and cross-cultural communication.
His dedication to teaching led him to become an English Professor at Wonderful Institute, where he inspired many students to pursue education with confidence and discipline. As his ministry grew, he was appointed National Coordinator of the Jesus Film Evangelism Ministry for the Church of the Nazarene Mission, sharing the message of salvation across communities through film and outreach.
Driven by his vision for education and faith-based transformation, Rev. Formetus founded both the Les Roches Community School (primary and secondary levels) and the Institution Mixte Académie des Sciences de Fond-Parisien, providing access to quality Christian education for children and youth in the region.
In his pastoral calling, he served faithfully as Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene of Lastic/Les Roches, and later answered the call to establish what is now the Bethel Church of the Nazarene of Fond-Parisien, where he continues to serve as Senior Pastor and Founder.
Alongside his pastoral duties, Rev. Formetus also contributes to the broader ministry of the denomination as Finance Coordinator (Accounting) for the French Field Office of the Church of the Nazarene.
Through every stage of his journey, Rev. Franckel Formetus has remained devoted to his calling—to preach the Gospel, uplift his community, and serve God faithfully in every aspect of life.
